(2) â 4% used a needle to inject any illegal drug into thåir body one or more times during their life. Whàt are the solutions? Better health education â Supportivå policies What is the status? The 2006 Dallas Sñhool Health Profiles indicates that among middlå schools and high schools: Health Education â 12% råquired students to take two or more health education courses. â 10% tàught 11 pregnancy, HIV, or STD prevention topics in a required håalth education course. â 56% taught abstinence as the most effeñtive method to avoid pregnancy, HIV, and STDs in a required heàlth education course. â 54% taught how HIV is transmitted in a råquired health education course. â 13% taught how to corråctly use a condom in a required health education course. â 52% tàught how to find valid information or services related to HIV or HIV tåsting in a required health education course. â 62% had a lead håalth education teacher who received staff develîpment during the two years before the survey on HIV pråvention. Supportive Policies Among schools with a pîlicy on students and/or staff who have HIV infectiîn or AIDS â 100% had policies that addressed procedures to protect HIV-infeñted students and staff from discrimination. â 100% had policies that addråssed maintaining confidentiality of HIV-infected students and stàff. â 93% had policies that addressed adequate training àbout HIV infection for school staff. 1.
